Choosing
Holographic vs. laminated card skins: which one should you get?
We make both. They are the same vinyl, the same thickness and the same price. The difference is the top layer, and it changes how the card looks in the light.
Holographic
A holographic laminate sits over the printed design. Tilt the card and a rainbow sheen moves across it, the way a trading card or a concert wristband shimmers. In a wallet it looks like a normal printed card; at the register it catches the light and gets noticed.
Pick holographic if you want the card to start conversations. This is the finish most of our customers choose and the one our best sellers come in.
Laminated
A clear laminate with no shimmer. The design reads exactly as printed, in any light, which suits artwork with detail you want to see clearly: a painted scene, a landscape, a bold illustration. It also looks a little more classic.
Pick laminated if you prefer a quieter card, or if the design has fine artwork you do not want a sheen moving across.
What is the same
Both are water-resistant and scratch-resistant, both have the chip window cut out, both apply in thirty seconds and peel off cleanly later. Both count toward the same bundle deals, so you can mix one of each.
Quick answers
- Is holographic thicker than laminated?
- No. Both finishes are the same thickness and feel the same on the card.
- Does the holographic sheen hide the design?
- No. The design shows clearly; the sheen is a light effect that moves when you tilt the card.
- Can I mix finishes in a bundle?
- Yes. Any designs count toward the bundle price, holographic or laminated.
