John 3:16

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Where it comes from

Jesus speaking to Nicodemus, a religious leader who came to him at night with questions.

What it means

The most famous sentence in the Bible is a sentence about giving. God loved, so God gave, and what he gave was the most costly thing he had. "Whoever" is as wide a door as language allows. If you only ever memorize one verse, this is the one, and if you only ever share one, this is also the one.
