“Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.”

Where it comes from

Jesus tells a story about ten bridesmaids waiting through the night for a wedding to begin. Five brought extra oil for their lamps and five did not. When the bridegroom finally came at midnight, the five who were ready walked in with him, and the door closed behind them.

What it means

The parable is not about being perfect. It is about being ready. The foolish bridesmaids were not wicked, just unprepared, and by the time they realized it, the moment had passed. Jesus ends the story with one line: stay awake, because you do not know when. It is a verse about living today as if the thing you are waiting for could arrive tonight.
