Psalm 27:1
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”
Where it comes from
David wrote this psalm surrounded by real enemies. It opens with confidence and, a few verses later, admits to fear and asks God not to hide his face.
What it means
The question "whom shall I fear?" is not rhetorical bravado. David answers it by listing exactly what he's afraid of and then deciding where to look. Light doesn't remove the darkness around you; it shows you the next step through it. A stronghold doesn't mean the attack isn't real; it means you are standing somewhere that holds.
Carry it
A small reminder at the checkout line that the thing you're dreading this week does not get the final word.
